Housing

Obtaining suitable housing is a major problem for a lot of people. This is particularly so for individuals with a history of substance use. At LESHRC we work diligently to try to house individuals, some of whom are in living in the street or housed in substandard conditions and from a variety of disenfranchised populations such as people living with HIV/AIDS, Transgender, have criminal histories, or documented histories of mental health illnesses.

We focus on locating appropriate housing, but also work on preventing participants from losing their apartments due to stringent rules and regulations, rent arrears, or other issues.

Our Housing Specialist performs housing assessments and provides general information about housing issues. He also provides advocacy and escort to fair hearings before housing court, as well as with landlords and tenant associations to prevent evictions.
