Untreated psychiatric problems are rampant among injection drug users, many of whom may be trying to self-medicate while avoiding healthcare. Mental health services are critical for this population, and providing these services has become an integral part of LESHRC's mission.

A psychiatrist is on site at our Allen Street storefront every week to provide participants with ongoing psychotherapy, medication management, referrals, and other mental health services. Also, on-site psychiatric social workers provide one-on-one mental health assessment, treatment planning, referrals, and supportive counseling, including that geared specifically to the needs of people with HIV/AIDS.
