Recognizing that people who are HIV positive have needs, concerns and considerations unlike those of others, LESHRC developed the Vital Services Program (VSP) to meet these unique requirements. Focused assistance provided by specially-trained LESHRC staff to VSP participants includes crisis intervention, substance use counseling, case management and mental health services.
As with all new LESHRC participants, intake interviews are held for VSP participants, and at that time program services are explained and an agreement is reached about the best route to take to meet the participant’s needs. For any critical problems requiring immediate attention, a staff referral specialist or crisis intervention counselor is called in to provide guidance or a recommendation where additional help is available.
